Services and Treatment Programs
All appointments are done virtually through a secure platform, Zoom Health Care Professional. This platform can be accessed via any phone, tablet, or computer with an internet connection.
In certain situations, health practitioners can arrange in-person group or individual treatments at their clinics in Vancouver by contacting Dr. Steinhart directly. If you are a patient who is interested in in-person treatment, speak to your referring health care provider.
Treatment Details
Dr. Steinhart offers a variety of stress reduction techniques and mental health treatments, including mindfulness based stress reduction. Please see below for further details.
Please note: Group or individual treatments are NOT suitable for patients who are at risk of self harm or harm to others, or are currently experiencing an episode of major depression, bipolar disorder, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), or have emotional dysregulation, including borderline personality disorder.
All group programs are covered by British Columbia's Medical Services Plan (MSP).
Please note: This is NOT group therapy, and will not focus on treatment for specific acute mental disorders. However, these programs can be beneficial in preventing the recurrence of mental health problems.
This is an 8-week program of 90 minute weekly medical appointments. Participants are expected to attend each session.
Who is it for?
This program is intended for patients who are experiencing symptoms of excessive stress, often due to distressing events or ongoing situations. These symptoms may include but are not limited to:

Worrying

Trouble concentrating

Physical problems worsened by stress

Sleep disruption

Changes in appetite

Nervous Feelings/restlessness/agitation
What is the objective?
This program is intended to:

Help patients develop basic understanding of the factors that lead to excessive stress

Provide a variety of tools to reduce excessive stress
These tools include:

Training in mindfulness
-
Introduction to cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)
-
Aspects of CBT-Insomnia to improve sleep quality
-
Improving nutrition to reduce stress, and managing under/overeating as a response to excessive stress
-
Using activity or exercise to reduce stress
This is an 8-week program of 90 minute weekly medical appointments. Participants are expected to attend each session.

This group is intended for patients who have difficulties coping with chronic illnesses, including but not limited to:

Diabetes

Gastrointestinal disorders

Coronary artery disease (CAD)

Chronic Covid Symptoms/Long Covid (PASC)
What is the objective?
This program is intended to help patients:

Address habits of worry regarding future health

Address habits of low motivation and treatment adherence difficulties

Reduce feelings of discouragement due to loss of function or duration of unwellness

Cope with adverse treatment effects
Methods used to accomplish these objectives include:

Training in mindfulness to reduce focus on symptoms and side effects

Introduction to cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)

Aspects of CBT for improving adherence and reducing depression (CBT-AD)

Aspects of CBT-Insomnia to improve sleep quality

Improving nutrition to reduce stress, inflammation and chronic illness symptoms

Increasing motivation for activity and exercise to reduce stress and chronic illness symptoms
Dr. Steinhart also offers medical appointments for individuals. These appointments are not covered by British Columbia's Medical Services Plan (MSP). Patients will be billed directly for these appointments. These treatments may be covered under certain private health insurance plans.
